The Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) is hosting The World Becomes What We Teach, a humane education workshop presented by the Institute for Humane Education (IHE). The workshop will be facilitated by Zoe Weil, President of IHE. This professional development offering will take place on Saturday, November 14, 2015, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Detroit Zoo’s Ford Education Center. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Sponsored by the DZS’s Berman Academy for Humane Education, this professional development workshop is designed to help educators explore the pressing issues of our time and assess the role of schooling to address them. Teachers will learn how to bring global ethical issues into the classroom through innovative activities and approaches that enable their students to become conscientious changemakers and effective problem solvers for a more humane, peaceable and healthy world.

This workshop is recommended for all classroom teachers and community educators, but is also open to students and other persons interested in humane education. The registration fee is $20 and includes a light breakfast, lunch and the text for the course, “The Power & Promise of Humane Education” by Zoe Weil. SCECHs will be available.
